Definitions
CIE: Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (International Commission on Illumination). International organization that sets standards and methods used for measuring color and illumination.
CIE Coordinates: A set of 3 numbers (x,y,z) used to map color space. In practice only 2 numbers are used (x,y). This is possible since the numbers are constrained so that so that x+y+z=1.
Dominant Wavelength ld : Highest intensity wave as perceived by the human eye (photometric) thus based on CIE coordinates.
Peak Wavelength lp : Highest Intensity wavelength (radiometric) on a particular spectral distribution.
Illuminant E: A hypothetical equal wavelength intensity light source (white light).
Spectral Width: A measure of the wavelength distribution in a light source; analogous to the Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM).
Saturation: Perceived purity of color (0% saturation = white light).
Tristimulus Response Curves: A set of curves developed by the CIE in 1931 that approximate the wavelength response of the three color receptors in the human eye.
